Job Fair Connects Young People with Employers

photo 1 - CopyResCare Employment and Training sponsored a job fair Saturday at Hamilton County’s OhioMeansJobs center this past Saturday. This event came at the tail end of our 2014 Hamilton County Summer Youth employment Program as a way for the young adults, who fall between the ages of 17 and 24, to connect with prospective employers and put those skills they learned to the test!

At Saturday’s event, there were more than 100 young adults who met with 23 local employers. They completed on-site interviews, using the tools they learned over the summer.

Winning over their interviewers came with a prize—those who received full-time job offers would be provided with $100 gas cards or bus cards to get them to and from work until that first paycheck comes through. A treat for those who were starting their first jobs.

Almost 750 people participated in the 2014 summer youth program, all with one singular purpose: to learn and develop job skills and improve their chances of employment. They worked with 154 employers, learning about employer expectations, personal responsibility, and professionalism. During the summer, these bright young minds earned almost $1.3 million dollars from these companies, and ResCare wanted to make sure they continued on such a successful path.photo 2 - Copy (2)

“I want to give all the credit to ResCare for this  event, while letting us benefit from their positive outcomes,” said Kevin Holt, the Workforce Development Section Chief at OhioMeansJobs Hamilton County. “All the kids presented themselves very well.”

Hamilton County Job and Family Services director Moira Weir showed enthusiasm about the job fair, and about all the great benefits that came from the Summer Youth Employment Program:

“We are excited to connect local employers with potential employees, many of whom have benefitted, or will benefit from our job-readiness programs,” said Weir, “Every successful match that we make will help strengthen our community and local economy.”
