75 years have passed, yet our mission remains constant

We’re celebrating a milestone at JFS this year – our 75th anniversary.

On Jan. 1, 1948, JFS was born from a consolidation of several social-service offices run by the city and county. At that time it was called the Hamilton County Welfare Department. Later, it was the Department of Human Services before becoming Job and Family Services.

I wonder what then-Director Frederick Breyer’s chief goals and challenges were. Times were so different, yet our core mission has remained constant – to serve children and families in our community.

Throughout our anniversary year, we will share information about the history of JFS, how far we’ve come and what new initiatives will come in our future.
