Hamilton County Hosts Regional SNAP Conference

For two days, 160 representatives of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance programs from 14 counties in six states are meeting in Cincinnati to discuss and learn ways to efficiently provide assistance to their clients.

Hamilton County Job & Family Services is hosting the SNAP Education and Training Urban 14 Summer Workshop Thursday and Friday, June 22 and 23 at Memorial Hall.

“It’s for us to get together and share ideas,” Kevin Brewer, an HCJFS section chief in Family and Adult Assistance, said, “This is a great opportunity to share our best practices and processes.”

Staff from the 14 urban counties that provide the majority of food assistance in the Midwest Region of the USDA Food and Nutrition Service are in attendance. The region includes Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and Montana.

Speakers include: HCJFS Director Moira Weir, OHIO JFS Director Cynthia C. Dungey and experts from Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Columbus and Akron.

Topics include: payment accuracy, documentation and verification, modernization, customer service and quality improvement.
