Director's Letter: Growing Up and Growing Out of Foster Care

By now, the graduation parties are over and reality is setting in for many of the youth in foster care. Most will age out of the system and face a world of unknowns. Some go on to college, some return to their biological families and some become homeless.

On June 12, we celebrated the graduation of 48 high school students who had been in foster care. Through the generosity of the US Bank/Haile Foundation, country music star and foster care advocate- Jimmy Wayne, shared his inspirational story about being raised without his biological family.

Kiosk Installed in HCJFS Lobby



Consumers are now able to scan their documents directly into HCJFS's document-maintenance system through a self-serve kiosk in the lobby. Documents able to be scanned include public assistance applications, verification documents and vital information - such as their social security card, driver’s license and birth certificate.

The system is free and easy to use.

Ieisha Kennedy Lands Two Jobs with Help from SuperJobs

Ieisha Kennedy came to the SuperJobs Center looking to create a better life for herself and her children. With the help of the SuperJobs staff, she not only landed one job but two.

When Kennedy’s son was diagnosed with autism, she left her previous job to take time to work with him. She knew her unemployment would be temporary and she would have to get back to work to take care of her family. But she struggled to find a job because she couldn’t find child care and didn’t have enough information on job openings.

Cash and Food Assistance Cards Update


By now, consumers should have received their new Ohio Pathway Card in the mail.

Although the transition to the new card has been temporarily delayed, consumers should keep the new card for later activation. In the meantime, continue to use the blue Ohio EPPICard for cash assistance benefits.

HCJFS Honors 48 Graduates


48 high school graduates were invited to celebrate their achievement with HCJFS at the Celebration of Dreams dinner June 12.

The annual event recognizes the foster youth in HCJFS care who beat the odds to graduate high school.

For many of the graduates, graduation is just a beginning as they go on to college, trade school or other successful careers.

Child Support Awareness Month


Support is Key!
