Director's Letter: Mass Adoption Ceremony: Positive, Emotional Event
When you work in the
field of abused and neglected children, there are more bad days than
good.
Every child we work with
– nearly 17,000 last year – has a sad story behind them. Day after day
of hearing those stories can bring you down. Even 20 years after
starting in this business, I’m still regularly surprised by the horrific
experiences of these children. I’m always thankful we have the
opportunity to make a difference in their lives.
But this month, we will
have a day where the good far outweighs the bad. Nov. 22 will be a day
of celebration.

HCJFS to Celebrate 7th Annual National Adoption Day
On Friday Nov. 22,
15 children will join seven families in Hamilton County Job
and Family Services’ seventh annual mass adoption ceremony.
Although adoptions
are usually confidential, these families have agreed to
be part of the ceremony to help celebrate National Adoption
Month and raise awareness about adoption from foster care. The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. in Judge Cissell’s
Hamilton County Probate Court.

Reminder About Food Assistance Changes
Two changes will
happen shortly that will affect Hamilton County food assistance
recipients.
Beginning Nov. 1, the
2009 Recovery Act’s temporary boost to food assistance will expire. As a
result, most families receiving benefits will see a decrease in their
monthly allotment.
The amount varies
depending on a family's situation. For families receiving the minimum
benefit, the decrease will only be $1 per month. But for a household of
four people receiving more than minimum benefit, the decrease could be
up to $36 per month.
