The National Association of Counties has chosen a Hamilton County Job and Family Services’ program as one of its 100 Brilliant Ideas at Work, recognizing the program as one of the most innovative government programs in the country.

The Association recognized the county’s partnership to help food assistance recipients obtain long-term self-sufficiency through training and employment in the trucking industry. Hamilton County partnered with the state of Ohio and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service in a first-of-its-kind partnership that trained food assistance recipients to drive trucks, resulting in jobs paying more than $45,000 per year.

Hamilton County is one of the few counties in Ohio to combine assistance programs, child protection, child support and employment assistance under one agency. Hamilton County JFS has been recognized with an Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties (NACo). The awards honor innovative, effective county government programs that enhance services for residents.

NACo recognized HCJFS’ training partnership with Napier Trucking that resulted in six people gaining employment that pays at least $900 per week.

Talbert House, OMJ Cincinnati-Hamilton County and Talbert House are offering workshops, starting Feb. 14 to help people with criminal records find work.

The workshops will be held at the North Central Library Branch from noon to 2 p.m. on Fridays and at the Mt. Healthy Library from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.
