Five Questions With the Parnell-Roy Family
Each year, hundreds of children come into foster care through
Hamilton County Job and Family Services. Many return to their
parents. But for some children, adoption becomes the best option.
Currently, Hamilton County has about 190 children looking for
adoptive parents.
Update caught up
with James Parnell-Roy about the adoption of Jordan in 2012.
Update:
Tell us how you adopted your child?
James: We were matched with Jordan in May of 2012, and Jordan
came to live with us in West Palm Beach, Florida on 7/26/2012, we were
chosen out of 70 potential families at 'selection staffing'.
Update: Why did you
decide to adopt?
James: Originally we had become foster parents with the hope
of adopting a child, but all five children that were placed were eventually
reunited with their birth families.
Update: What obstacles, if any, did you have to overcome in order to
adopt?
James: The only obstacles that we incurred was the waiting
for the selection staffing and the time from being chosen to the time
Jordan came to live with us, two months felt like forever!!
Update: What has been
your biggest reward in adopting?
James: We are thrilled to be Jordan's parents, every day is a
reward, and watching him learn and love and grow is our biggest reward.
Update: What advice do
you have for other potential adoptive parents?
James: Do not give up, your child is out there, waiting for
you to find them. Henri is from San Juan, PR and I are originally from
Rochester, NY and Jordan was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, we have different
backgrounds, come from different ethnic groups, but we are a Family!!!!
