Wear Blue: Child Abuse is Preventable

Please join us Wednesday, April 10 by wearing blue to help raise awareness about child abuse and neglect.

The 88 children’s services agencies throughout Ohio will join together to celebrate Child Abuse Prevention Month in April by promoting “Wear Blue: Child Abuse is Preventable” and asking residents to wear blue to work, school, the gym or wherever you find yourself on April 10.

One of the main duties of Hamilton County Job and Family Services is operating Hamilton County’s child abuse hotline:
241-KIDS (5437). In 2011, the hotline received almost 65,000 calls, resulting in more than 5,600 allegations of abuse or neglect. Unfortunately, studies show that many more cases of abuse and neglect go unreported each year.

Often, it is because people don’t recognize the signs or are afraid to make the call.

This year, we want you to join us by wearing blue April 10 and encouraging others to join the cause. We also encourage you to like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/hcjfs and “join” the Wear Blue event page. With your help, we can make a strong statement: child abuse is preventable.

On April 10, we hope you will post a picture of yourself on our Facebook wall wearing blue with friends, family or co-workers.

Child abuse will never be completely eliminated but, with this campaign and your help, we hope to reduce the number of children who have to suffer silently.

This event, previously known as “Wear Blue to Work,” was adopted by the Public Children Services Association of Ohio in 2012. This year, the committee rebranded the campaign as “Wear Blue: Child Abuse is Preventable.” In the future, the event will be held the second Wednesday of every April.
