You probably already know this if you’re a parent, but it is good information to repeat. From Hamilton County Public Health and the City of Cincinnati’s health department:
Some schools in Hamilton County are experiencing high levels of influenza (flu) and influenza-like illnesses. Symptoms include fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit/37.8 degrees Celsius or higher), cough, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, body aches, headaches and feeling very tired. Some people may also vomit or have diarrhea.
Recommendations:
- Get a flu shot. It’s not too late. Though you might have heard that a flu shot doesn’t prevent the flu, it’s still the best way to prevent serious flu complications and hospitalization.
- Take preventive actions, including: Stay away from sick people; avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth; cough or sneeze into a tissue or your elbow; wash your hands a lot; stay home if you are sick; stay home from school or work until you are without a fever for 24 hours.
