Thank you GETDOT for supporting the FAMILY Fund at the group’s Sept. 17 event in Sharonville. And thanks to the The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation for matching the donations.

GETDOT stands for Good Excuse To Donate on Thursday. It is an offshoot of a similar networking group in Columbus. It began as a way to make quality networking connections but quickly added the goal of donating to children’s charities.

“Every month GETDOT Cincinnati gets together to provide a place for people to meet with a cause in mind – Cincinnati’s less fortunate Kids,” according to the GETDOTCincy.org website.

The FAMILY (Friends and Advocates Making Investments in Local Youth) Fund was recently established to help the agency cover expenses that are either not permitted under state and federal programs financed by taxpayer contributions or for which there are limited funds.

For example, the agency might not have funds to cover a foster child’s expenses to participate in an after-school sport, wear a cap and gown to graduation or take a trip to visit a college. If that child graduates and finds a good job, that agency cannot help pay for a car or car insurance to see that he or she makes it to that job.

“Imagine being a 6-year-old autistic foster child who can benefit from an iPad equipped with specific teaching applications, but your foster family can’t afford it. Or a 16 year old invited on an over-seas trip with your school band, but your foster family can’t afford to send you,” the GETDOT website asks.

GETDOT Cincy holds an event each month on the third Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.  Each GETDOT event has the same two-part theme – networking and supporting a children’s charity.  The admission to attend is a donation to the children’s charity of the night.  In return, you are given door prize ticket(s) for a chance to win one of the donated door prizes.
